|
|
Just tried a few economic guitar at Luther music and Davis.
-Takamine D series, I think D50 and D20
-Micheal Kelly (can't remember, but the price around S$300, with EQ/tuner pickup)
Takamine D series dreadnought is surprising good at only $200+, but the Grand Concert model are lacking treble and bass, but have a stronger mid, maybe if you are a pure finger stylist, you might like it.
Whereas the dreadnought model are really quite balance, good for strumming and picking.
Michael Kelly guitar which I have never heard before was surprisingly quite good too. With the EQ/tuner pickup and the patented Variable Set Neck™, it is really quite value for money.
All the above are quite well setup in both Luther music and Davis.
Also tried a $200+ Yamaha, it is not good. Thus didn't write anything about it. _________________ Carrying the Presence of God.....

All unplug.
But only plug in the Michael Kelly to test out the pickup, the rest doesn't have pickup.
Micheal Kelly pickup are quite normal, but it is only S$300+ guitar. _________________ Carrying the Presence of God.....

I just ask Luther and they recommend D20 for beginner but it is not solid top for $225.
it seems worth it but what is the main difference whether it is a solid top or not? |

Hmm with a solid top, your guitar top will age and "open up". The tone will improve, and the top might change colour as well (it's not a bad thing). This won't happen with tops that are laminated. _________________ For You are my Shepherd, O God. Walk with me, and lead me to still waters.

saw 2 at davis today, 1 was $350, the other $225....both didnt have adjustable neck as suspected....i was wondering, why not pay another 25 bucks for a solid top? The Fina 3150 costs only 250 bucks _________________ CHC E413 [YL zone]

The Michael Kelly guitar I tried in Davis that cost $300+ comes with adjustable neck and EQ/tuner pickup.
Actually the Takamine D series (D20 and D50) sound better than the Fina 3150. But of course tone are subjective, so I would say it sound clearer and the projection are better too. I don't think a solid top Fina will ever produce that clarity when it open up.
But of course, recently I have never played a 4 yrs old Fina 3150 to compare. Usually people sell their budget guitar in like 3 years time. _________________ Carrying the Presence of God.....
